Yoga Poses for Beginners to Try

Yoga is the integration of all aspects of an individual to achieve a balance in life, spiritually. Since Yoga is touted to have many benefits to the body and health, many people are jumping on the bandwagon to take up Yoga.

Mountain Pose

This is one of the fundamental poses in yoga. To do this, stand straight with your feet together and put your arms to your sides. Shoulders must be relaxed and your body weight should be evenly distributed through your feet.

Slowly, take a deep breath and raise your hands over your head with your palms facing each other. Make sure your arms are kept straight at all times, and then reach up towards the sky. This pose is great for training your balance, strength and focus.

Seated Twist

This pose helps to stretch your hips, shoulders and back, in turn toning your abdomen. Firstly, sit on the floor and stretch your legs. Then, cross your right foot over the outside of your left thigh and bend your left knee. Throughout the whole process, keep your right knee pointed towards the ceiling. After that, you have to place your left elbow to the outside of right knee; your right hand should be on the floor behind you. Twist right as far as possible and try to stay in the same position for one minute. Switch sides and repeat the same actions.

Chair Pose

As suggested by the name, your ending pose should look like you are a chair. To start, slowly inhale and bend your knees into a squat. Then unlock and straighten your fingers. After which, you separate your arms. When your thighs are parallel to the ground, move your arms towards your ears. Shift your weight to your heels. Breathe in, stand up and lower your arms. Then breathe out.

Butterfly Pose

Firstly, sit on the floor and put together the soles of your feet. Put your hands around your ankles and push your knees as low as possible. Straighten your body and then breathe in and out slowly. Take around four to six deep breaths.

Learning and practicing basic beginner poses will aid you in getting through a yoga class with any types of yoga styles. As with other sports and activities, the start is always daunting and difficult, especially since we always yoga guru doing impossible poses. With some patience and perseverance, one can attain such poses with ease.
