More Beneficial Restorative Yoga Poses
One of the most useful yoga programs to follow is restorative yoga. Restorative yoga is designed to relax and rejuvenate the mind and body. This form of yoga is ideal for individuals suffering from stress and chronic fatigue, as well as muscular tension.
Restorative yoga is accomplished by utilizing various poses designed to relax your body, and promote proper spinal alignment, which is integral to your overall health.
Twist Pose
Supported Reclining Twist
The supported reclining twist is often performed at the end of a yoga session, as a cool down that helps restore and rebalance the system, and internal organs.
What Will I Need?
For this pose, you will need two large pillows or yoga cushions
How Is It Performed?
Step 1 Begin the supported reclining twist by lying on your back with bent knees. Place one of your yoga cushions on your right side, and the other on your left.
Step 2 Roll your body onto one side, and allow the entire length of your spine to be supported by the yoga cushion by turning and leaning your back into it.
Step 3 Place the cushion that is currently in front of you between your knees and hug it into your chest.
Step 4 After holding for 1-2 minutes allow your shoulder's to come to the floor and open what is known as your heart center by extending both arms in a position that resembles the letter "T" at your sides.
Your palms should be facing upwards, while your head should be turned away from your knees gently twisting the spin.
Step 5 Hold this position for 3-4 minutes while breathing deeply into the twist and releasing areas of chronic tension.
Step 6 Return to center pausing briefly, before repeating steps 1-5 on your opposite side.
This restorative yoga pose will significantly benefit your body, and help you relieve large amounts of chronic stress that you carry with you throughout your day.
It is crucial to remember that you breathe deeply throughout each of these stretches, as shallow breathing substantially diminishes the benefits you gain from these poses.
If this restorative yoga pose seems difficult at first, work your way through them gently, and as you progress, they will become much easier to complete.
Always trust your body, and go only as long as you think you need to in order for you to gain the necessary relaxation and health benefits the restorative yoga provides.
